Sailing
When I first got on my water shoes I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do it, or was I…
When my feet first touched the boat a bunch of images, sayings, and emotions ran through my head. I felt as if all the food I ate today just ran out of my stomach. I was scared. What if I fell out of the boat and got stung by a jellyfish!! I was 99% scared and 1% excited. Well, that’s just some of the things that ran through my head that day. But this is nothing compared to what I’m telling you next…
It was windy, and the waves were crashing. I felt as if it was a scene in a horror movie where the sea monster was about to eat the boat. I was sailing the boat with two other kids, who were controlling the main and jib sail. When the boat was about to tip a 7-year old girl started crying. I tried to stay strong and hold back my tears. We got the boat back upright, luckily, into the right position. I overheard the instructors debating whether we should go in or keep sailing. After they decided we heard the instructors call out “Everybody head back to the docks!” After that it was just a race to the finish. It was like a cycling race, people kept making sharp turns in front of each other, one boat even capsized! My boat wasn’t the boat that capsized; my boat was the first to the dock. When I got back in I realized there was nothing to be afraid of. I actually had a better time than I thought I would. I’m glad I had that experience now so that I know when I’m sailing there’s really nothing to be afraid of…
