Two years ago, my sister and I were called downstairs in our old house in California . My parents sat huddled around one of their laptops. The laptop screen had pictures of apartments in New York City . My parents said “Dad got a new job in New York . He will be living in an apartment during the week and fly home to us on the weekends to visit with us. This is so he can try out the job for the year to see if the likes it and we like the community in Connecticut ”. I didn’t know what to say and feel. Half of me wanted to cry, bursting into a flood of tears and half of me wanted to dance excitedly. After that day, the world went on as usual and no more unexpected surprises. More and more of my group of best friends learned that I was moving. My dad had left to New York as planned and returned only on weekends. As time pasted it became March and we left for three days to check out our house and meet Mr. Jones, the principal. We saw Long Lots School and looked at our house. Soon, we flew back to California and packed up our stuff in the moving truck. We kept a few of our clothes and stayed in a hotel for the last days of school. I had a feeling Connecticut might be amazing with kind people, but my expectations were not high. On the plane I could only feel sadness and excitement, but also felt comfortable that my old nanny, Jackie, and sister and mom were with me. A rumble and bump told me it was time to get of the plane. When we were in New York a driver would take us to my dad’s apartment to stay for the night. The next day the driver drove us to our new home and the movers helped us unload. During the summer, I met my neighbors and hung out with the girl at the end of my street along with my sister. In August we went to see my class room and meet my teacher and that’s where I met Seren, my best friend. She introduced me to nice kids and kept me company. I didn’t expect that the people and places in Connecticut would be so amazing and nice. Moving didn’t turn out to be as bad as I imagined it to be and the kindness and atmosphere really changed my way of thinking! J
