Overcoming My Fear
“Mom, I don’t think I can do it.” I said this as I was about to go on Space Mountain in California . I was going crazy seeing people get off the ride dazed and confused. For a six year old, it was scary.
My parents said to me, “Eli, calm down.” It helped a little, but when I was ten people away from the ride my stomach was in a twist. I had butterflies; everything was going wrong.
As I got closer, closer and closer to the ride five, four, three, two, one… we were called. I took really small steps as we were walking to the loading zone my dad and mom tried to help me get in the seat. When I was finally strapped in… I did it I held my self together, stopped being scared, and STOPPED.
When the ride started I was actually smiling. Then we shot into a big black room. I thought I was in a large black hole, not strapped to anything. It was awesome. I was smiling, having fun. This was a great ride but then we stopped. I thought “Is this the end? So why are we stopping.” I then saw a little rock; I think it was an asteroid? It flies right at us. As it got closer to us, it was bigger, bigger and bigger! It was so close I could almost touch it. Now I was scared, my life flashed in front of me. Then I heard a rumble, I’m not sure where it came from. Then before I could guess we were off again. We went around obstacles, hard corners, up hills, down hills. Did I mention this was fun?
We sped up to like 80 mph, passing through asteroids. “I think I see light” I said to my dad. He replied, “I think the ride is over.” “Dang, it was so fun” I whined.
We went slower, slower and then we stopped. I got out all happy because I overcame my fear, and sad because the ride was over. My dad said to me “Eli did you overcome fear?” “Yes I did daddy!” I was happy to tell myself “Eli you can do it.”
