Skiing falls
Picture this. I’m on top of a cliff scared out of my mind. Free skiing with my brother and dad. Knowing that my brother was going off, which meant I was next. I would have to dodge a tree before jumping over a 3 foot log sticking out of the side of a cliff. Well, these were the thoughts going through my mind. But since I am who I am, I calculated my route and spotted a place to jump off the cliff. Here goes nothing I thought to myself. I was speeding up to make sure I would clear the log. When I realized I forgot about the tree, I was able to jumble one ski out of the way, but the other nicked the tree and I fell hard nailing my shoulder on the log. When I hit the ground, I slid at least 15 feet down the mountain. I think I blacked out because the only thing I remember is after a couple of seconds of just lying down in pain the first words I heard were he is down for the count. When I got up I needed to go to our room and put hot rags on my shoulder. That wasn’t even the worst fall ever in fact that was my 4th worst fall.
So here my top falls. Number 3… It was a nasty day and since the chair lift was broken, I had to hike the half pipe. I was trying to land a 5-40 for a competition. On my third time hitting the half pipe wall, I flew too high landing on the deck. I scraped my chin and it bled for twenty minutes.
My second worst fall was when I got a concussion. The park was a little bumpy and when I was coming off a jump I hit one of the bumps and went flying. I was airborne. With my luck I landed on my head. The pain was brutal. My head heart so much.
But I think one of my worst falls was when I was hitting a jump for the first time. As I followed someone in he told me don’t speed check. So I didn’t, but I was going too fast when I went off the jump. I went so high I jumped over the person in front of me and landed so hard I made a pain angel. Since I went so high I overshot the landing zone and all the impact of hitting a flat surface traveled right to my back causing the pain angel.
Even though I had all these fall they have all helped in different ways. I’ve learned to not only take advice from my ski coaches. Also, to not do anything I’m not comfortable with.
