Hurricane Irene

Around a week before school started, a hurricane struck the east coast of the United States of America. Everyone was worried on that day with trees falling on your house or people getting injuries but really nothing happened. The day of the hurricane, the windows were shaking and high winds were coming through the fireplace. I was probably the most scared of all of my family.
“BOOM, BOOM” goes the thunder coming thought the clouds. The thunder sounded like waves crashing to the shore and trees hitting the ground. It seems like the thunder is going to hit my window right open. But I know that it is not going to happen. Flash lights were spread out on the table, water bottles lay on the couch, candles sitting there to light up the darkness when the power breaks down, and my family sits there watching some T.V. like a normal Friday night watching a movie.
Once the sky was gray with stars, our power was on like it was our normal day lives.
I opened my eyes, I saw lights on, bright sky through the windows, and I heard my parents going nonstop about how we didn’t lose power at all. My mind was messed up. We didn’t lose power how is that possible. I totally thought that we would almost everyone did. WHAT!!!!
Around my family started to drive to the beach to see what was going on. We parked the car and saw brownish colored water in driveways that might be up to my knees and sand piles to each house on the shore. My brother and I glanced around. “Hey Gemma, look at this,” my brother was pointing to a life guard chair that was pushed down by the waves and wind. “Brenden! Let’s go to the Hood’s house soon to see what happened.” I shouted to my brother from 20 feet away.
Next thing I knew, I was standing in front of a house that has a flooded driveway and sand on their grass with muddy mush all over. I didn’t even want to walk on that grass but I had to because of my mom wanting to see what happened inside and we were done outside.
My dad yelled, “Gemma, we have to go soon, come back to the Hood’s house in 10 minutes.” My brother and I ran back to the house right after we took some pictures of the beach.
I began to think about people who had houses with walls made of wind and floors madder of rock. I felt bad inside about what’s happening in the world with people who are poor and don’t haves houses to live in. My heart sinks in and out. I might have started to tear up if I really felt bad in a sad way. No words would come out to talk with someone right now. My mined tells me I have to help but I am still thinking on what I have to do.
“Time to go,” says my mom to us. Soon, I just have to figure out a way to stop these things from happening. For now I give to drives like food, clothes, money, and our normal day things that we use at schools and homes worldwide.
