The Piece of the Puzzle
My dog, Lucy, is the best. She is the piece of the puzzle that I always needed.
We got her in New Jersey even though she was born in Maine . The feeling of getting a dog was fantastic because I always wanted a dog. I begged my parents for two years straight. I wasn’t going to give up on my dream. Finally when I was eight, we went to pick up my dog. I was wondering if I was going to get a bad dog or a good one. Finally when we went to go see my dog, she looked magnificent! She was just sitting there smiling. Then when we got in the car, she laid on my lap like she was saying, “Thank you for taking me.”
When Lucy got to her new house, she was so confused and happy at the same time. She was wondering where she was, and she was happy to see the pond. We showed her the house and she explored the beautiful pond. She jumped right in. I threw a tennis ball in the pond and then she went to get it. I threw a stick in the water, so she got it also. Then she came into shore. I was so happy that we got a Lab because Labs love to swim. Lucy got into the house and she was so happy because we gave her a treat and then she was even happier. We had to take Lucy to be vet for a check-up to make sure that she wasn’t sick, hurt, or had any other problems. When we got to the vet, she was crying, whimpering, and she was scared. I guess she didn’t like the vet. But when we got out, Lucy felt relieved.
When we first got Lucy, all she did was three things: eat, sleep, and play. She got three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lucy would jump on us when she wanted more food even though we knew she had enough! I felt guilty but if she ate more then she would be FAT. Lucy usually sleeps on my brother’s bed, but sometimes she sleeps on mine. She doesn’t like regular dog beds because she wants attention and company.
We had to train her for a long time. We taught her easy routines first like walk without a collar, no begging, and sleeping on her dog bed which didn’t work! Then we taught her the fun activities like playing soccer, basketball, and giving high fives.
I am so glad we have Lucy. She is the dog that I always wanted. Now she is connected to the puzzle of our family!
