My Piano Recital
“Ritika go practiced your piano” my mother called. It was a fall Saturday. I had 3 hours before my piano recital. I wonder, is this just a recital to help us get rid of stage fright or is it really important. I quickly got my stuff in order and started to practice my piano.
For the recital I was playing two totally different songs. One song was jumpy and is called, “The Cricket and The Bumble Bee”. The second song is calm and is called, “Bagatelle # 12”. I also had to play the chords and the scales for both of the songs. The scary part is that I’ve never played the scales and cords in a recital before.
Time was going by so fast that it felt like one minute had gone by before I had to get ready. Once I was totally ready I got my music and got into the car. I was going to perform at my piano school in the recital room. I was very nervous. What if I mess up? What if I play the wrong note? While I kept on worrying it was time to get out and play my music. One thing I knew about this recital is that one person is going to judge me.
At the door my teacher came to greet me. My teacher told me that I was going to perform in the recital room and one judge will judge me. She also told me that no one can come in the recital room with me. That thought really scared me.
Soon it was my turn to perform. Once I sat down at the piano I forgot that she was going to judge me. I played the “Cricket and the Bumble Bee”. I played that song first because I thought I was better at it. Then I played “Bagatelle”. I was having so much fun that the songs, scales and chords went by like a second.
Once I was done, my teacher said that I had played very well. She also told me that I would get my results on Tuesday. Not too far from now, I thought. Time went by so fast and soon it was Tuesday.
While I was waiting for my class to start, I saw this sign hanging up. On the sign was the list of students who had scored in the top 10% of the recital that I had preformed! Then I read all the names from top to bottom. In that process I saw my name towards the top! I was surprised that I had actually scored in the top 10%. That was all I needed to know before I got my results. I knew that I had done a great job!
