What’s His Name?

“Yes!” I cried we are finally here!” I cried, excitedly. My mom and I were visiting the local animal shelter. I love animals, so therefore, I love to visit the poor homeless animals to cheer them up. I really don’t understand why people who don’t have any allergies and can afford the animals don’t want them. They are just so harmless and cute! They are also great companions! Of coarse, we were not here to buy the animals but to love them. We told the lady at the desk what we wanted. After a kitten or two, a tiny striped kitten caught my mom’s eye. She pointed him out to me. “May we please see him?” asked my mom, pointing at him and smiling at me. She winked. I smiled. “Absolutely!” answered the lady. Soon, we were playing and cuddling with a tiny adorable kitten named Ross. My mom called someone after we had finished playing with the kitten with cat toys and cuddling him like a baby. He had the softest fur! “Who is it and why!” I asked my mom 100 times. Finally, my mom got quite fed up with me so she said, “Do you want the kitten or not!” “WE ARE GETTING THE KITTEN?!” I almost screamed. “Sssshhhhhhhhh!” answered my mom. I immediately closed my mouth and knew to stop talking. So I did.  My hands got sweaty and my mind raced. My brother and sister were at Iroquoi Spring Sleep away camp at the time. When we decided we wanted to take him home the lady at the desk said she thought he couldn’t leave his sister. We didn’t want to take his sister. We liked Ross better. He was a better fit for our family. The lady at the desk checked with the manager about Ross leaving his sister. “Please, please, please!” I thought and I was pretty sure Ross was thinking “Please, please, please!” too. I mean, who doesn’t want a home? We ended up with a kitten named Stripes in our family. That made three pets. Two cats and a dog. My siblings were a part of the name Striped thanks to visiting day at the camp. In a book that I read a dog’s name was Flash. We had also liked the name Rascal from a different book that I read in the same series. Stripes was, and still, is very quick. So now, we have Comet, (Our cat) Alfie, (Our dog) and Flash. (Our kitten). Flash is as striped as a tiger or even a zebra and we all love him!
